What is Ramadan?

Every year, Muslims around the world observe the month of Ramadan. Ramadan is incredibly important in Islam as it recalls the month when Allah revealed the first chapters of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad in 610.

For observant Muslims, this holiest of months means abstaining from food and drink during daylight hours, avoiding negative thoughts, and engaging in prayer and acts of charity.

When is Ramadan?

Ramadan takes place annually on the ninth month of Islamic calendar. However, because the Islamic calendar is 10-12 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar—the calendar most commonly used around the world—Ramadan falls on a different date every year. This year, Ramadan begins in the evening of the 12th of April and ends at sunset on the 12th of May.

When is Eid al-Fitr?

At the end of the month of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr (The Festival of Breaking the Fast). ‘Eid’ literally means ‘festival’ or ‘feast’ in Arabic, and Muslims typically celebrate the occasion in a variety of ways. These include visiting mosques, reciting a special set of prayers (Salat al-Eid), exchanging presents and enjoying the first daylight meal with family and friends after a month of fasting. In 2021, Eid al-Fitr falls on the 13 of May. Eid is then celebrated for one to three days, depending on the country.

How Should I Greet Someone During Ramadan?

Ramadan is a great time to start sending well wishes to customers, clients, business partners, friends and family in the form of customized Ramadan greetings cards and Eid Mubarak cards.

Here are a few of most common, universal ways to greet someone during Ramadan:

  • Ramadan Mubarak (“blessed Ramadan” or “happy Ramadan”)
  • Ramadan Kareem (“have a generous Ramadan” or “may Ramadan be generous to you”)

There are also localized greetings in every other country. For example, in Malaysia, the two main greetings used during this festive season are:

  • Selamat Berpuasa (“have a blessed fasting month”)
  • Selamat Hari Raya (“have a blessed celebration”)

However, if you are unsure, the general greeting works just fine.

The next question is: how do you want to send this Ramadan greeting card? An e-card just has so many upsides; it’s much easier when sending to many people, it can be personalized, it’s cost-effective, and it can be used as a marketing tool too by posting it on your social media accounts.

The best part is you can send either a simple image e-card or a short video e-card to share your well wishes. Both options definitely stand out and give you the ability to personalize it with your logo. If you want to know how to make a Ramadan card, check out some of the great templates below.
